TULSAThree players scored in double figures and Oral Roberts
University went 10-for-10 from the free throw line in the final
1:48 in a 62-53 victory over Louisiana-Lafayette, Tuesday at Mabee
Center.
Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas) scored a game-high
19 points for the Golden Eagles (2-2), and made all eight of his
free throws down the stretch to help seal the game.
Leading by as many as 13 points in the second half, the Golden
Eagles nearly let the game slip away. With ORU up 46-35 with 6:46
left, the Ragin' Cajuns (1-2) used a 10-4 run to pull within 50-45
on a steal and layup by Elijah Millsap.
A layup and a pair of free throws by Jarvis gave ORU a nine-point
lead of 54-45 with 1:36 to play, and Jarvis and Adam
Liberty (Oklahoma City, Okla.) combined for eight straight free
throws in the final minute.
The Golden Eagles received an offensive boost from defensive
specialist
Yemi Ogunoye (Cedar Hill, Texas). The sixth-year
senior scored a career-high 13 points, making 4-of-5 shots from the
field, including a career-btes three 3-pointers. Ogunoye also added
eight rebounds and four assists.
Marcus Lewis (Long Beach, Calif.) added 13 points
and four rebounds. In addition to his point total, Jarvis grabbed a
season-high seven rebounds and added three assists. He was also
10-for-12 from the line.
The Ragin' Cajuns were led by David Dees' 10 points.
ORU shot 46.2 percent from the field and held ULL to 35.1 percent
shooting. The Golden Eagles out-rebounded Louisiana, 40-27.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they visit Southland
Conference preseason favorite Lamar, 7 p.m., Saturday.
