LOGAN, UtahFour Utah State players scored in doubles figures
in a 76-55 win over Oral Roberts University, Saturday at Dee Glen
Smith Spectrum. The win was the 52nd consecutive non-conference
home victory for the Aggies.
In a return game of last season's Bracket Buster meeting in Tulsa,
the Aggies (10-5) shot 52.6 percent from the field a
season-high by an ORU opponent and limited the Golden Eagles
(7-5) to 30.2 percent shooting. Utah State led 42-16 at halftime
and was never challenged in the second half.
Utah State jumped out to a 20-4 lead less than nine minutes into
the game. ORU trimmed the lead to 20-9 on a three-pointer by Robert
Jarvis (Humble, Texas) and a layup by Marcus
Lewis (Portland, Ore.), but couldn't get any closer before the
break.
ORU never trailed by fewer than 21 points in the second half, and
Utah State's advantage swelled to as many as 29 when a Wilkinson
layup made it 67-38 with 6:16 to play.
Adam Liberty (Oklahoma City, Okla.) led ORU with
11 points, adding six assists, four rebounds and three steals.
Lewis chipped in 10 points and three assists.
Tai Wesley and Jaycee Carroll each scored 14 for the Aggies, while
Stephen DuCharme added 11 off the bench. Carroll entered the game
averaging 21.8 points, but was held to 5-of-11 shooting by Yemi
Ogunoye (Cedar Hill, Texas) and company.
Utah State out-rebounded ORU, 46-33. The Aggies were 13-of-17 from
the free throw line, compared with 11-of-18 for the Golden
Eagles.
The Golden Eagles resume Summit League play when they visit
Centenary, 5:30 p.m., Saturday, Jan. 5 in Shreveport, La.
