Okla. �€" Elisha Turek (Council
Bluffs, Iowa) posted 18 points and 16 rebounds leading Oral Roberts
University to a 62-53 victory over UMKC in Mid-Continent Conference
play on Monday night at the Mabee Center.
ORU
(16-9, 6-5 Mid-Con) had four different players that scored in
double-figures. Janae Voelker (Newton, Kansas)
recorded her third double-double in as many games, tying her career
mark of 14 points and setting a new career-high of 13 rebounds.
Mariana Camargo (Blumeneu, Brazil) and
Rachel Watman (Sydney, Australia) scored 11 and 10
respectively.
The two
teams battled closely in the first half with six total lead changes
and six ties. The Golden Eagles had trouble stopping
UMKC�€™s center Alysa Klein in the first half
with her scoring nine of her 17 points. Turek and Voelker led the
charge in the first frame for the home team combining for 10 points
and 13 rebounds.
ORU
held UMKC (8-17, 4-6 Mid-Con) to a 29 percent (7-of-24) shooting
clip in the first half including just 3-of-11 from beyond the
arc.
The
Golden Eagles came out determined in the second half opening with a
10-4 run to claim the lead at 34-28 with 17:55 remaining. ORU
withstood the Kangaroos pressure and held at least a four point
advantage the rest of the game.
Klein
led UMKC in scoring with 17 points while grabbing five boards. ORU
held the edge on the glass out rebounding the
�€˜Roos, 42-35.
Overall, both teams stuggled from the floor with the Golden Eagles
going 21-of-54 (38.9%) from the floor while UMKC shot 33.9 percent
(19-of-56).
The
Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday, entertaining former
Mid-Con member Chicago State at a 12:30 p.m. tip off at the Mabee
Center.
