Golden Eagles Whip Grizzlies, 3-0

TULSA - It only took three games for the ORU volleyball squad to win their home and conference-opener as the Golden Eagles (6-5, 1-0 Summit League) defeated the Oakland Golden Grizzlies (5-8, 1-1 Summit League) 30-22, 30-23, 30-26 in front of a packed Cooper Aerobics Center.

Jackie Oliveira continued to be a strong presence for ORU as the junior outside hitter registered her sixth double-double of the season with 18 kills and 15 digs on the night. This is the 11th consecutive match that the MInas Gerais, Brazil native has collected double-digit kills.

Also producing for ORU was junior-transfer Janete Ferreira who finished the night with 11 kills and three digs. Junior Thais Parada finished with a season-high 29 assists.

Leading the way for Oakland was Amy Golem who tallied 17 kills in the match. Lauren Duquette added 13 digs for the Grizzlies.

ORU led throughout almost all of game one until a service ace by Oakland's Alex Darin tied the game at 12-12. The Grizzlies would take the lead, 12-13 after a Hallie Beattie block, but ORU would tie the game back at 13-13 off of an Oakland error and would follow with a Jackie Oliveira service ace to give ORU the 14-13 lead, which they would hold the entire match, winning game one 30-22.

In game two, Oakland jumped out to an early 5-2 lead, but the Golden Eagles fought back with eight-straight points with the help of Oakland errors. The Grizzlies would only get as close as five points to ORU the rest of the match as the the Golden Eagles ran away with the game, winning 30-23.

The Grizzlies would not go down easily as the teams battled back-and-forth most of the third game until a Danijela Novakovic kill would give ORU the lead at 18-17. ORU would not look back the rest of the game, defeating Oakland in game three 30-26.

ORU will not have to travel far for their next match on Tuesday as they take on their cross-town rival, the Tulsa Golden Hurricane at TU. Match time is set for 7 p.m.
