Golden Eagles Slip in 3-1 Loss to Tulsa

TULSA - The Oral Roberts volleyball team ran away with game one, but could not overcome Fabilola Nepomuceno's 25 kills as the Golden Eagles (6-6, 1-0 Summit League) fell in four games to the cross-town rival Tulsa (12-3) 30-20, 17-30, 28-30, 22-30.

Leading the way for ORU was junior-transfer Janete Ferreira who finished the match with a team-high 17 kills and tacked on 12 digs to register her fifth double-double of the season. Junior Jackie Oliveira also finished the night with 15 kills and 12 digs, her eighth double-double of the season and fourth-straight. Sophomore Juliane Vieira tallied 23 assists for ORU.

With an exception to the first two points of the game, ORU led all throughout game one, taking a five-point lead (7-2) before Tulsa would break the streak with a Emma Ridley kill. The closest TU would come to ORU was four points as the Golden Eagles would win game one, 30-20.

Both teams would battle back-and-forth in game two until the Hurricane would go on a three errors by ORU and a Hannah Stout kill would allow TU to pull away to lead by as many as 10 with the score at 27-17. Tulsa would score four-straight points to defeat ORU 30-17.

The Golden Eagles put up a strong fight in game three, battling point after point and taking a 10-6 after a JoJo Souza kill and a Hannah Stout attack error. After a TU timeout, the Golden Hurricane would score five-straight points to take the lead 11-10 and would hold that lead the remainder of the game, winning 30-28.

Tulsa started game four on a four-point streak before a Julia Silva ball handling error would give ORU their first point of the game, 1-4. The Golden Eagles would fight back, scoring four-straight points to tie the game 5-5 with the help of a TU attack error. The Hurricane would score three points before a Nicole Weis kill would set the score at 8-6. The Golden Eagles could not catch up though as Tulsa would lead the rest of the game, sending ORU home with a 30-22 fourth game loss.

ORU will return home for their second conference match of the season this weekend as they take on Centenary Sept. 22 at the Cooper Aerobics Center. The match is set to start at 7 p.m. Live statistics and streaming will be available.
