KANSAS CITY, Mo. --
The Oral Roberts University men's soccer team fell to Eastern
Illinois, 1-0, in a double overtime match Friday night in the
opening round of the UMKC Invitational.
The Golden Eagles had
several chances to score but Eastern Illinois's goalkeeper Mark
Hansen finished with seven saves on the night. ORU (1-2-0) barely
out shot EIU (3-0-0), 11-10, but held a seven-to-three shot on goal
advantage.
Brad Peters scored
the game-winning goal in the 104th minute, heading the
ball just inside the back post from a cross from Alex Harrison.
It was the first
overtime loss of the year for ORU this season and first since Sept.
24, 2004 against Northwestern.
Carlos Pinto led the
Golden Eagle offensive attack with four shots, three on goal. Tommy
Apitz, Jordan Tatum, Juan Chang, Nikola Bogdanovic, and Jorge
Davila also recorded shots for the Golden Eagles.
ORU's goalkeeper
Andrew Techanchuk finished the match with two saves while facing a
total of 10 shots.
The Golden Eagles
return to action Sunday at 11:30 a.m., playing Loyola-Chicago in
the second round of the UMKC Invitational.
