ORU Volleyball Drops Tough Five Set Battle To NDSU

TULSA, Okla. – In one of the hardest fought battles this season, North Dakota State defeated the Oral Roberts volleyball team, 3-2, Saturday evening in the Cooper Aerobics Center on the ORU campus.

The loss snapped an ORU four-match winning streak, as the Golden Eagles are now 20-8 overall and 12-3 in Summit League action. NDSU carried its season-long winning streak to 17, as the Bison are now 22-3 overall and finished conference play with an undefeated 16-0 record. ORU is now 3-4 all-time against NDSU.

NDSU won the first set, 25-22, before ORU took down the Bison in the second, 25-15. The Golden Eagles hit .545 in the second and committed zero attacking errors. NDSU came out of the break to win the third set, 25-18, while ORU tied up the match at 2-all with a 25-19 victory in the fourth set. The Bison captured the fifth set, 15-9, to take home the overall win.

Two Golden Eagles recorded double-doubles on the evening, as senior rightside hitter Jackie Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) tallied 16 kills and 15 digs and senior setter Thais Parada (Sao Paulo, Brazil) registered 47 assists and 14 digs. Parada was just short of a triple-double as she added seven kills and hit .a team-high .389 on the night. Senior middle blocker JoJo Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and senior outside hitter Danijela Novakovic (Rijeka, Croatia) were just short of double-doubles, as both had nine digs and double-digit kills. Novakovic recorded 13 kills and Souza tacked on 12. Senior libero Carol Garbato (Sao Paulo, Brazil) also added a team-high 21 digs on the evening.

The Bison were led by Chrissy Knuth's match-high 24 kills, as she hit a match-high .442. Jennifer Lopez registered a triple-double for NDSU as she had 12 kills, 31 assists and 16 digs, while Janna Deyle added 11 kills and seven block assists. Kelly Lopez recorded a match-high 23 digs, while Kristen Hillie tallied 19 digs and Brooke VandenBergh had 10 digs.

ORU hit .197 overall compared to NDSU's .209. The Golden Eagles out-dug the Bison, 86-83 and tied them in kills with 64. NDSU tallied one more assists than the ORU, 59-58, and out-killed ORU, 21-14.

The Golden Eagles wrap up regular season action, hosting UMKC on Sunday, Nov. 16 at 3 p.m. All home matches are played in the Cooper Aerobics Center on the ORU Campus. ORU hosts the Summit League Tournament next weekend as the Golden Eagles are the No. 2 seed and will play in the first semifinal match at 5 p.m. on Friday, Nov. 21. More tournament information will be available on the ORU website and the Summit League website at the beginning of next week.
