ORU Defeats Wichita State, 89-76, In Season Home Opener Tuesday Night

TULSA, Okla. – Behind junior guard Amy Pryor's (Norman, Okla.) career-high 26 points and 10 rebounds, Oral Roberts women's basketball defeated Wichita State, 89-76, in the season-home opener Tuesday night at the Mabee Center.

The win evens out ORU's season record to 1-1, while WSU also evens out its record to 1-1. The Golden Eagles are now 11-8 in the all-time series against the Shockers.

Junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) posted season-highs of 21 points and eight rebounds for the Golden Eagles and added a career-high five steals. Freshman guard Georgia Jones (Manchester, England) chipped in 15 points and senior guard Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) scored 13.

Both Camargo and freshman forward Jordan Pyle (Mustang, Okla.) pulled down five boards for ORU, who out-rebounded WSU, 42-34.

After the second tie of the game at 5-all with 17:30 left in the first half, the Golden Eagles took a 9-0 run during the Shockers six minute scoring drought, to put ORU up 14-5 with 13:59 left to play. Wichita State cut the lead down to three at 9:24, 13-16, before Voelker busted out two straight three-point shots to give ORU a 30-17 lead at 5:24. The Golden Eagles took their lead to 18 points, 41-23, with four straight free throws and led by as much as 21 in the first half, after a Jones jumper with 31 seconds remaining. ORU would go into the halftime break with a 47-28 advantage.

After three straight Shocker points, Pryor matched that with a three-pointer of her own at 19:04 in the second half. Voelker came up with three straight free throws to bolster ORU's lead to 56-40 with 15:21 left to go and a Pryor layup gave the Golden Eagles an 18 point lead less than a minute later. ORU took its largest lead of the game, 75-52, with 7:42 left to play and the Golden Eagles never led by fewer than 12 points from that point on.

Pryor finished the night 11-of-13 from the field, including 4-of-6 from three-point range, while Volker went 6-of-15 from the field, 3-of-7 from three-point range and 6-of-7 from the charity stripe.

On the night, ORU shot 29-of-65 (44.6 percent) from the field, including 9-of-24 (37.5 percent) behind the three-point arc. ORU was also 22-of-35 (62.9 percent) at the free throw line.

Wichita State shot 46.6 percent (27-of-58) from the field, 25.0 percent (2-of-8) from three-point range and 80.0 percent (20-of-25) from the charity stripe.

ORU continues with its second of three-straight home games against cross-town rival Tulsa on Saturday, Nov. 2 at 12:05 p.m. in the Mabee Center.
