ORU Volleyball Ends Season With 3-1 Loss To North Dakota State

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team fell, 1-3, to North Dakota State in the championship match of the Summit League Tournament in the Cooper Aerobics Center.

The Golden Eagles finish the season with a 22-9 overall record while the Bison improves to 24-3 overall and advances to the NCAA Tournament.

Senior right side hitter Jackie Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) hit a team-high .366 and smashed a match-high 20 kills, while senior outside hitter Danijela Novakovic (Rijeka, Croatia) added 11 kills. Senior setter Thais Parada (Sao Paulo, Brazil) registered 41 assists, while senior outside hitter Janete Ferreira (Sao Paulo, Brazil) and senior libero Carol Garbato (Sao Paulo, Brazil) each chipped 16 digs for ORU.

The Bison were led by Brooke Vandenbergh's 16 kills, while Kristen Hille added 13 and Chrissy Knuth tallied 11. Jennifer Lopez registered a team-high 28 assists, as Mattie Johnson added 22 and both Hille and Kelly Lopez tacked on 14 digs.

ORU took charge in the first set winning, 25-20, before NDSU came back to win the second set, 25-20. The Bison would come out of the break to win the next two sets, 25-16 and 25-17, respectively.

The Golden Eagles hit .176 on the day, while NDSU hit .284. The Bison recorded two more kills (55-53), two more assists (55-53) and 12 more blocks (21-9), while the Golden Eagles out-dug NDSU, 64-54.

ORU's Thais Parada and Jackie Oliveira were both named to the Summit League all-tournament team, while NDSU's Kristen Hille was named the all-tournament MVP.

Six ORU seniors ended their careers today, as Ferreira, Garbato, Novakovic, Oliveira, Parada, and senior middle blocker JoJo Souza played their final game.
