Voelker's 21 Points Pushes ORU Women's Basketball Past Tulsa, 65-50

TULSA, Okla. – Junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) led the Oral Roberts women's basketball team to a 65-50 win over cross-town rival Tulsa Saturday afternoon in the Mabee Center. Voelker scored a game-high 21 points and pulled down five rebounds.

This is the second straight win for ORU, as the Golden Eagles are now 2-1 overall. Tulsa is now 2-1 overall as well. ORU now leads 27-5 in the all-time series against TU.

Freshman guard Georgia Jones (Manchester, England) added 15 points and a career-high seven assists for the Golden Eagles, while senior guard Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) had an all-round game with seven points, five rebounds and five assists.

The Golden Eagles started the game going seven-for-seven from the field to take a 15-8 lead at the 14:39 mark, as Jones scored five of those first 15 points. Jones pushed the ORU lead to nine with 12:49 left to play, while junior guard Kelly Kindell (Schulter, Okla.) made a three-pointer at 10:30 to give the Golden Eagles a 14 point lead at 22-9. After five points from Voelker, ORU led 29-22 with 2:45 remaining in the first half and a Camargo free throw would end the first half with the Golden Eagles leading 33-26.

ORU took a 15-8 run to start off the second half, as it led 51-34 with 13:21 to play. Five points from junior guard Amy Pryor (Norman, Okla.) kept the Golden Eagles up by 12 at the 9:35 mark, while a three-pointer from Jones less than a minute later would give ORU a 59-44 lead. The Golden Eagles led by as much as 19 in the second half, 65-46, with 3:15 remaining and a 4-0 run by the Golden Hurricanes was not enough to take away the ORU win.

Voelker finished the day 8-of-12 from the field, including 2-of-4 from three-point range and 3-of-5 from the free throw line. Jones went 6-of-14 from the field and 3-of-6 from behind the arc, while Camargo finished 3-of-3 from the field.

ORU shot 47.4 percent (27-of-57) from the field, including 38.9 percent (7-of-18) from the three-point line and 50.0 percent (4-of-4) from the charity stripe.

Tulsa shot 37.5 percent (21-of-56) from the field and 60.0 percent (8-of-13) from the free throw line.

The Golden Eagles out-rebounded the Golden Hurricanes, 37-32, and ORU had 15 more assists (23-8) than TU.

ORU wraps up its current three-game home stand against cross-town rival Central Arkansas on Monday, Nov. 24 at 12:05 p.m. in the Mabee Center. Monday's game in a part of TTCU's Best Field Trip Ever, as the Golden Eagles invites all elementary and middle school students to take part of an exciting and educational day and cheer on the ORU Golden Eagles.
