ORU Women's Basketball Picks Up First Road Win, 56-51, At Missouri State

SPRINGFIELD, Mo. – Junior guard Amy Pryor (Norman, Okla.) secured the Oral Roberts women's basketball, 56-51, victory at Missouri State with three straight free throws in the final 16 seconds of the game.

The Golden Eagles picked up their fourth straight win to improve to 4-1 overall, while the Lady Bears fall to 1-3 overall. ORU tallied its second straight win against MSU and is now holds a 7-3 advantage in the all-time series.

Junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) registered her second straight double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds, while freshman guard Georgia Jones (Manchester, England) scored 12 points and both senior guard Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) and Pryor chipped in 10 points each. Freshman forward Cristal Turner (Maidstone, England) posted career-highs of seven points, six rebounds and four blocks in 25 minutes of action.

The first half of action remained tight as the lead changed five times and the score was tied twice. MSU scored first but the Golden Eagles responded with five straight points from Jones and Pryor. A three-pointer from Turner at the 11:33 mark put ORU up 10-6 and a three-pointer from Jones gave ORU a five point lead, 13-8, with 11-11 remaining in the half. MSU took a 9-0 run to regain a 17-13 lead with 8:00 to play. Four straight points from Voelker tied up the game at 17-all with 6:40 to go, while a three-pointer from Camargo gave ORU its final three points of the first half. The Lady Bears brought the game back to within one point in the final two seconds, as the Golden Eagles took a 23-22 lead heading into the break.

ORU's senior forward Monah Pegorari tallied two points in the second half at 18:22. The Golden Eagles would then go on a seven minute scoring drought to give MSU a chance to go on a 9-0 run and take a 33-25 lead. Voelker ended the drought at 13:03, while Voelker would give ORU a 36-35 advantage with 10:09 remaining. Four points from Camargo gave the Golden Eagles its largest lead of the half, 44-38, with 6:38 remaining as ORU never trailed the remaining six minutes. The Lady Bears found themselves down by two, 53-51, with 1:08 remaining but Pryor would sink three of four free throws to put the game away.

The Golden Eagles shot 47.9 percent (23-48) from the field, including 26.7 percent from three-point range (4-15) and 54.5 percent (6-11) from the free throw line.

MSU shot 32.8 percent (22-67) from the field, including 15.0 percent (3-20) from behind the three-point arc and 36.4 percent (4-11) from the charity stripe.

ORU continues action on Saturday, Nov. 29, hosting Houston Baptist at 2:05 p.m. in the Mabee Center.
