ORU Drops Close One, 58-48, At No. 23 Oklahoma State Tuesday Evening

STILLWATER, Okla. – Despite at 15-4 difference at the free throw line in favor of Oklahoma State, the Oral Roberts women's basketball team kept the game at No. 23 Oklahoma State close, falling 48-58, Tuesday evening in the Gallagher-Iba Arena in Stillwater.

The loss evens the Golden Eagles record out to 5-5 on the year, while the Cowgirls improve to 5-2 overall. OSU now holds a 17-15 advantage over ORU.

Junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) posted her fifth double-double of the season with a team-high 14 points and a game-high 13 rebounds. Senior guard Mariana Camargo (Blumenau, Brazil) and freshman guard Georgia Jones (Manchester, England) both added 12 points each, as Camargo pulled down seven boards and senior forward Monah Pegorari (Sao Paulo, Brazil) grabbed eight rebounds.

OSU went to the line 25 times compared to ORU's four, as the Cowgirls shot 60.0 percent (15-25) from the free line and the Golden Eagles shot 50.0 percent (2-4). Andrea Riley went 9-14 from the charity stripe, scoring five of the last eight points for OSU.

The Cowgirls scored the first bucket of the game at 19:20 before the Golden Eagles responded with a 4-0 run in the next 50 seconds to give ORU its first lead of the game at 18:43. An 8-6 ORU run put the Golden Eagles up by four, 12-8, with 13:50 left in the first half, as Camargo scored four of those eight points. OSU took back the lead at 12:16 before ORU fought back to take its second four point lead, 21-17, with 8:03 to go, as freshman forward Cristal Turner (Maidstone, England) and Jones provided a spark with back-to-back three-pointers. A layup by Camargo kept the Golden Eagles lead at four, 23-19, with 5:46 left to play, while OSU tied it up at 23-all with 4:07 remaining. The Cowgirls would take a three point lead, 27-24, heading into the break.

OSU's Tegan Cunningham opened up the second half with a three-point shot in the first seven seconds, to give the Cowgirls a 30-24 lead, while Jones answered back with a three-pointer of her own less than 40 seconds later. Voelker sparked a 7-0 run from the 14:30 minute mark to the 12:30 minute mark, as the Golden Eagles were down by one, 35-36, with 12:30 left to play and a three-pointer by Voelker gave ORU its first lead in the second halfat 40-38. Jones pushed that lead to 42-38 with 10:04 remaining on a layup. A free throw by Cunningham tied up the game for the fifth time of the night, 42-42, while a Camargo layup brought the Golden Eagles back to a 46-45 lead with 6:26 to go. A five minute scoring drought by ORU gave the Cowgirls their first double-digit lead of the game, 56-46, with 1:53 to play, as Riley provided six of those points from the free throw line.

ORU shot 32.3 percent (20-62) from the field on the night, including 26.1 percent (6-23) from three-point range, while OSU shot 30.9 percent (17-55) from the field and 39.1 percent (9-23) from behind the arc.

OSU out-rebounded ORU, 46-42, as the Golden Eagles committed 10 more fouls (24-14) than the Cowgirls.

The Golden Eagles wrap up its season-long six-game road trip with two games in Cozumel, Mexico this weekend. ORU faces USC-Upstate on Friday, Dec. 19 at 5 p.m. (CT), and then battles Texas-San Antonio on Saturday, Dec. 20 at 5 p.m. (CT).
