BROOKINGS,
S.D.Five players scored in double figures and Oral Roberts
University went 10-for-14 from the free throw line in the final
1:53 as the Golden Eagles picked up their first road win of the
year with an 85-76 Summit League victory over South Dakota State,
Saturday at Frost Arena.
With the win
ORU (2-5, 1-1 Summit) also snapped a four-game losing streak, its
longest since the 2000-01 season. Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas) led the way
for the Golden Eagles, topping all scorers with 23 points.
Playing
their fifth consecutive road game, the Golden Eagles led
wire-to-wire against the Jackrabbits (4-5, 1-1). ORU's lead reached
as many as 11 in the first half before settling for a 41-32
halftime lead.
While ORU

and 17 points, but nearly each time the Jacks clawed their way
back.
After
grabbing a 45-32 lead on a Kyron Stokes (Mansfield, Texas) layup with
18:16 remaining, the Golden Eagles saw SDSU get within eight points
(48-40) on back-to-back layups by Mackenzie Casey and Clint
Sargent.
ORU quickly
pushed the lead to 17 points when a Kelvin Sango (Tulsa, Okla.) steal and layup
made it 59-42 with 11:14 left. The lead stayed in the 15-17 point
range over the next seven minutes, but after a Jarvis three with
7:06 to go made it 70-53 with 7:06 left, SDSU mounted another
comeback.
A 10-3 run
over the next three-and-a-half minutes put SDSU within 73-63 with
3:34 to play. ORU pushed the lead back to 14 points when four
consecutive free throws made it 79-65 with 1:41 left. The Jacks
never got closer than nine the rest of the way.
The Golden
Eagles shot 57.4 percent from the field, including 40 percent
(8-20) from 3-point range. ORU also out-rebounded the Jackrabbits
36-22, and was 15-of-21 from the free throw line.
South Dakota
State shot 52.5 percent from the field, but made just 4-of-18 from
long-range and 8-of-10 from the line.
Jarvis was
8-of-17 from the field, including 3-of-9 on three pointers, and
4-of-5 from the free throw line. He also added two rebounds, two
