Bison Down Golden Eagles, 76-57 in Summit League Play

FARGO, N.D. – Two North Dakota State women's basketball players combined for over half of the Bison's points, as NDSU beat Oral Roberts, 76-57, Monday evening at the Bison Sports Arena in Fargo.

ORU falls to 5-4 on the season and 0-2 in Summit League action, while NDSU improves to 4-3 overall and 2-0 in league action. The Bison evened out the all-time series against the Golden Eagles to 2-all.

Junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) led the team with 18 points and seven rebounds, while junior guard Kelly Kindell (Schulter, Okla.) scored 13 points. Freshman guard Georgia Jones (Manchester, England) was the third ORU player in double-figures with 11 points.

Inger Hodson scored 22 points for NDSU and Katie Birkel added 21, as the duo combined for 43 points. Abby Plucker tallied 12 points, while Jerri Penley pulled down a game-high eight rebounds.

NDSU took an early 11-7 lead in the opening six minutes of the game before freshman forward Jordan Pyle brought the Golden Eagles to within two, 9-11, with 12:50 remaining in the first half. The Bison took advantage of two ORU scoring droughts to go on a 18-3 run in the next seven minutes of action, to give NDSU a 29-12 lead with 5:26 to play. Jones scored five of the next eight points for ORU to cut the lead down to 13 with 1:34 left, as the Bison took a 38-20 lead heading into the break.

The Bison opened up the second half on a 10-3 run to go up, 48-23, at the 15:58 mark. Voelker and junior guard Amy Pryor (Norman, Okla.) helped ORU take a 9-4 run in the n next three minutes of action, as the Golden Eagles were down, 32-52, with 11:15 to play. ORU cut into the lead once again with Pryor and Voelker leading the offense, as NDSU led, 58-42, with 8:09 to go. The closest the Golden Eagles would come the rest of the game was 15 points, at 52-67, with 3:13 remaining.

ORU shot 36.2 percent (21-58) from the field, including 37.0 percent (10-27) from three-point range and 83.3 percent (5-6) from the free throw line.

NDSU shot an astonishing 52.8 percent (28-53) from the field, including 35.3 percent (6-17) from behind the arc and 77.8 percent (14-18) from the charity stripe, as the Bison out-rebounded the Golden Eagles, 37-27.

The Golden Eagles get a week off before returning to action on Tuesday, Dec. 16 at in-state rival Oklahoma State. Game time is set for 7 p.m. and is the fourth of ORU's current season long six-game road trip.
