Roberts' women's basketball team completed its season sweep and
kept its six-game winning streak against UMKC in tact as the Golden
Eagles (15-11, 9-6 Summit League) defeated the Kangaroos (9-17,
2-13 Summit League), 65-56 on Saturday night.
Junior Mariana
Camargo led all scorers with 15 points on the night, as well as
grabbing six rebounds and three steals. Junior Jenny
Hardin had one of her best scoring nights since returning from
a nagging injury with 12 points and five rebounds.
Sophomore Janae
Voelker collected her fifth double-double of the season with 11
points and 11 boards in the win, while soph Kelly
Kindell was the final Golden Eagle to score in double-digits
with 11 points, shooting 3-of-12 from behind the arc.
UMKC's Brittny Picconi and
Chazny Morris each posted 14 points for the Kangaroos, while Alysa
Klein finished the game with 13 points and eight boards.
ORU forced UMKC to a
season-high 30 turnovers, while the Golden Eagles committed only
15. Another big statistic for ORU was 16 steals to the Roos
five.
It was a back-and-forth game
early with ORU opening on a 4-point run, while UMKC trudged right
back to take a five-point lead, 16-11. With 9:53 left in the first,
Voelker hit a three-pointer with to put the Golden Eagles down by
only one, 18-17. UMKC's Sierra Radke nailed her first trey of the
game, which propelled a 7-2 Kangaroo run to tie their largest lead
of the game of five, 24-19.
With 3:50 left, Monah
Pegorari scored with a put-back to tie the game for the first
time, 26-26. The lead changed four times up to the final seconds of
the first half with the Radke hitting 2-of-2 from the free-throw
stripe to take the one-point lead in to the locker room,
33-32.
The Golden Eagles came out
hot in the second half, scoring six-straight before Klein found the
basket at the 17:39 mark to score UMKC's first points of the half.
ORU began a 9-0 run, capped by a Jenny
Hardin jumper, 47-37. Two spurts of five-poing scoring streaks
by first, ORU and then UMKC would give ORU the 55-49 advantage. The
Golden Eagles extended that lead by six to hold their largest lead
of the game, 61-49, with 2:50 left to play.
UMKC outscored ORU 7-4 in
the final minutes, but it wasn't enough as the Golden Eagles
cruised to the 65-56 victory.
ORU wraps up the home
portion of the regular-season with a 7:05 p.m. tipoff with Southern
Utah on Monday, February 25.
