TULSAHomecoming King Moses
Ehambe (Arlington, Texas) scored 17 of his game-high 21 points
in the first half to help Oral Roberts University to a 20-point
halftime lead en route to an 88-56 Summit League win over IPFW on
Homecoming night, Saturday at Mabee Center.
The Golden Eagles (17-5, 12-0 Summit) won their 10th consecutive
game in dominating fashion over the Mastodons (10-14, 7-6). ORU
picked up its 25th consecutive home conference win by reaching a
season high in points, and holding its opponent 60 points or less
for the 12th time in 22 games.
Ehambe, who was crowned as king during halftime ceremonies,
propelled ORU to a 44-24 lead at halftime. The senior swingman
nailed a pair of three-pointers in the final minute, finishing
7-of-10 from the field in the first frame.
Despite Ehambe's effort, the Mastodons threatened to make it a game
late in the half. After ORU grabbed a 31-14 on a layup by Ehambe
with 3:59 left, IPFW scored seven straight points to pull within
31-21 on a layup by Chris Perkins with 2:51 left.
But ORU responded with a jumper from Adam
Liberty (Oklahoma City, Okla.), a layup by Marcus
Lewis (Long Beach, Calif.), a trey by Liberty and back-to-back
threes by Ehambe to regain control.
The Mastodons made another charge early in the second half. ORU
turned it over on its first three possessions and IPFW scored the
first seven points of the half, pulling within 44-31 on a
three-pointer by Ben Botts with 18:30 left in the game.
But again ORU responded going on a 13-2 run over the next three
minutes, taking a 57-33 lead on a trey by Robert
Jarvis (Humble, Texas) with 15:33 left to all but put the game
away.
ORU's lead swelled to as many as 35 points when a pair of Andre
Hardy (San Diego, Calif.) free throws gave the Golden Eagles an
87-52 lead with 2:44 to play.
Ehameb enjoyed one of his finest games, finishing 8-of-13 from the
field, 3-of-6 from 3-point range and 2-of-2 from the line. He added
five rebounds, four assists and two steals in just 22 minutes.
Three other Golden Eagles joined Ehambe in double-digits. Jarvis
scored 15 points, adding five assists without a turnover. Lewis
recorded his first double-double of the season with 12 points and
10 rebounds, also adding three assists in 19 minutes. Shawn
King (Bequia, St. Vincent) chipped in 10 points.
Botts led IPFW with 13 points, while Jakari Johnson scored 11 and
Jaraun Burrows added 10.
ORU shot 51.7 percent from the field, including 44.4 percent (8-18)
from 3-point range. The Golden Eagles limited IPFW to 41.8 percent
shooting, while out-rebounding the Mastodons, 43-26. ORU was
18-of-22 from the free throw line, compared with 9-of-14 for
IPFW.
The Golden Eagles return to action when they visit Western
Illinois, 7 p.m., Thursday, February 14 in Macomb, Ill.
