MIAMI, Fla.- The Oral Roberts University
volleyball team lost a close three-set match (24-26, 22-25, 23-25)
to Central Florida at the Florida International Invitational
Saturday morning hosted by FIU in the FIU Arena. The Golden Eagles
are now 6-3 on the season while UCF evened its record to 5-5. ORU
is also now 3-2 against the Knights.
Senior
middle blocker JoJo
Souza (Sao
Paulo, Brazil) led ORU with 11 kills and hit .308, while seniors
outside hitter Danijela
Novakovic (Rijeka,
Croatia) and libero Carol
Garbato (Sao Paulo,
Brazil) added 11 digs apiece.
Central Florida had a trio of players record double-digit kills
in the match including Stephanie Serna who recorded 12 kills and
hit .455, while Janine Williams added 11 kills and Erin Campbell
tallied 10.
ORU finished the
match with a .172 hitting percentage as compared to a .180 hitting
percentage for UCF. The Knights also had nine more kills (45-36),
eight more digs (59-51) and four more total blocks (12-8) in the
match.
The Golden Eagles
finish tournament action against host FIU at 6 p.m. tonight in the
FIU Arena.

TWO
The Oral Roberts
University volleyball team finished in third-place at the Florida
International Invitational after falling in a five-set match
(20-25, 25-17,13-25, 25-23, 15-11) to host FIU. ORU is now 6-4 on
the year and FIU improves to 9-1 overall.
Junior middle
blocker Talita
Santos (Sao Paulo, Brazil) picked up her first all-tournament
award this season after recording 15 kills and 12 digs in three
matches.
Senior rightside
hitter Jackie
Oliveira (Minas Gerais, Brazil) led ORU with 15 kills, 13 digs
and three service aces in the match against FIU, while senior
middle blocker JoJo
Souza (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied 10 kills and five block
assists. Santos hit an outstanding .667 on the night and added a
match high seven block assists to along with eight
kills.
FIU's Yarimar Rosa
tallied might-highs with 25 kills and 20 digs and Isadora Rangel
also recorded a double-double with 13 kills and 12 digs.
ORU finished the
match with a .199 hitting percentage as compared to a .244 hitting
percentage for FIU. The Golden Panthers also had four more kills
(62-58) and seven more digs (73-66) while the Golden Eagles
recorded five more service aces (7-2) and two more total blocks
(22-20).
The Golden Eagles
open conference action next weekend at South Dakota State and North
Dakota State. ORU faces SDSU on Fri., Sept. 19 at 7 p.m. (CT) and
then meets up with NDSU on Sat., Sept. 20 at 7 p.m.
