MACOMB, Ill.
Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas) scored a game-high
20 points to lead Oral Roberts University to a 64-54 Summit League
win over Western Illinois, Saturday at Western Hall.
The Golden Eagles (8-11, 6-1 Summit) claimed their fifth straight
victory by making big plays in the second half. Jarvis was 7-of-19
from the field.
Marcus Lewis (Long Beach, Calif.) added 13
points, seven rebounds and five assists for the Golden Eagles.
ORU led by as many as eight points in the first half before
settling for a 34-28 halftime lead.
The Golden Eagles couldn't shake the Leathernecks in the second
half. Western pulled within 38-37 on a Josh Rivers layup with 13:40
to play, but Jarvis scored nine points during an 11-2 run as ORU
took a 49-39 lead with 10:24 to play. Western never got closer than
seven points the rest of the way.
ORU shot just 38.8 percent from the field, including 6-of-17 from
3-point range. The Golden Eagles were 16-of-23 from the free throw
line, and out-rebounded WIU, 36-30.
The Leathernecks were shot 42.5 percent from the field, but were
4-of-13 from 3-point range.
David Nurse and Tommie Tyler led Western with 10 points
apiece.
The Golden Eagles next host UMKC, 7:05 p.m., Thursday at Mabee
Center.
