LAWRENCE,
Kan. - Janae Voelker scored a
career-high 29 points as the Oral Roberts University women's
basketball team fell to No. 20 Kansas on Sunday by a score of
106-80 at Allen Fieldhouse. The Golden Eagles dropped to 1-1 on the
season, while the Jayhawks improved to 1-0 overall.
Voelker, a
senior from Newton, Kan., secured the career high by shooting
10-of-18 from the field, 4-of-8 from three-point range and 5-of-8
from the free-throw line. Voelker fell just short of a
double-double with nine rebounds and extended her double-digit
scoring streak to 42 consecutive games.
Kevi Luper turned in
another impressive performance with 24 points off of 8-of-20
shooting from the field, including three treys.
Savanna Buck
(Pinehurst, Texas) chipped in seven points with two assists and two
steals, while Jaci
Bigham (McAlester, Okla.) and Noelia Quintas (Galiza,
Spain) also added six points apiece.
The Golden
Eagles trailed the Jayhawks by a score of 64-42 at the half after
being outshot 62 percent to 40 percent from the field. ORU only
committed seven turnovers in the first period, but suffered after
being outrebounded by a 28-15 margin.
ORU jumped
out to a 12-4 run after the break, keyed by two three-pointers from
Luper, to close the deficit to 14 points, but committed three
consecutive turnovers to end the run.
Danielle
McCray recorded a double-double with 27 points and 11 rebounds to
lead the Jayhawks, while Aishah Sutherland added 24 points and
eight rebounds.
The Golden
Eagles return to action on Friday at 12:00 p.m. against LaSalle at
the Mabee Center.
