HUNTSVILLE,
Texas - The Oral Roberts University women's basketball team
overcame a season-high 32 turnovers to claim a 101-85 victory over
Sam Houston State on Monday night at Johnson Coliseum.
The Golden
Eagles (4-1) claimed their third consecutive win and second road
victory of the season, while the Bearkats dropped to 2-3
overall.
Kevi Luper led ORU
with 29 points, going 10-of-19 from the field, 2-of-7 from
three-point range and 7-of-7 from the free-throw line. Luper also
recorded four steals and four rebounds.
Three Golden
Eagles posted double-doubles, led by sophomore Jordan
Pyle (Mustang, Okla.), who recorded 19 points and a career-high
13 rebounds. Pyle went 7-of-13 from the field, including her
first-career three-pointer, while going 4-for-4 from the charity
stripe for a perfect 13-of-13 mark on the season.
Georgia
Jones (Manchester, England) had her best performance of the
season, posting 10 points and handing out 10 assists. Jones played
a key role in ORU maintaining its lead, scoring all 10 points in
the second half, including two three-point field goals.
Senior Janae
Voelker (Newton, Kan.) earned her 24th-career double-double
with 10 points and 10 boards. Voelker scored eight second-half
points to extend her double-figure scoring streak to 45 consecutive
games.
Alex Adekunle
(Arlington, Texas) put together her second-consecutive
double-figure scoring game with a career-high 11 points and seven
rebounds. Fellow freshman Jaci
Bigham (McAlester, Okla.) chipped in eight points with a
career-high 12 assists.
The Golden
Eagles began the opening half of play with a 23-5 run as the
Bearkats failed to score a field goal through the game's first nine
minutes.
After
trailing by as much as 18 points, the Bearkats ended the opening
half on a 13-4 run to close the deficit to only five points at the
break.
Both teams
scored at a frantic pace to begin the second half of play before
the Golden Eagles put together a 9-0 run to push the lead to 17
points. ORU would maintain its double-digit lead through the
remainder of the contest.
The Golden
Eagles shot 67 percent from the field in the second half for a 46
percent mark for the game (36-of-78). ORU went 7-of-27 (26 percent)
from beyond the arc and 22-of-31 from the free-throw line (71
percent).
Brittany
Brooks led Sam Houston State with 24 points to go with seven
rebounds, while fellow guard Ray Alexander tacked on 17 points with
eight assists.
ORU
completes its road trip at 7:00 p.m. tomorrow night at No. 17
Texas.
