to a 2-0 start in Summit League play by hosting UMKC at 7:05 on

Scouting the Kangaroos
UMKC is currently 3-4 overall and snapped a three-game losing skid
in its conference opener on Saturday with an 81-66 victory at
Centenary. The Kangaroos have recorded wins over Drake and Northern
Arizona, while dropping games against Tulsa, North Texas,
UT-Arlington and SIU-Edwardsville. Preseason Summit League Player
of the Year Chazny Morris has led the squad, averaging 16.4 points
and 5.0 rebounds per contest. Dayon Hall-Jones and LeAndrea Thomas
are averaging 8.3 and 8.0 points per game, respectively, while
Kaycie Boyles has posted 7.7 points and 5.1 boards per contest.
UMKC is averaging 64.0 points per game compared to its opponent's
67.3 mark per contest, while committing 22.7 turnovers per game.
The Kangaroos are shooting 43 percent (169-of-398) from the field
and 31 percent (34-of-110) from beyond the arc.
All-Time Results Versus UMKC
ORU and UMKC will meet for the 42nd time in the series history,
with the Golden Eagles holding a 24-17 advantage over the
Kangaroos. ORU has won eight consecutive contests dating back to
2006, and 12 of the last 13 games since 2004. The Golden Eagles won
two tight contests last season, with a 68-59 victory in Tulsa and a
58-55 triumph in Kansas City. Janae Voelker tallied a
season-high 27 points and a career-high 18 rebounds the last time
the two teams met, while Georgia Jones posted a
career-high 23 points against the Kangaroos in Tulsa last season.
Head coach Jerry Finkbeiner is 20-10
against UMKC since taking over at ORU during the 1996-97
season.
Recapping the Southern Utah Game
The Golden Eagles kicked off the Summit League slate in style,
posting a 109-62 rout over Southern Utah on Saturday. ORU scored
100 points against a league team for the first time, while also
setting a school record with 17 3-pointers made. The 57-point
victory was the second highest margin of victory over a Summit
League opponent in school history. Kevi
Luper posted her second double-double of the season with 30
points and a school-record 12 steals. Janae Voelker tallied 18
points, while Georgia Jones also posted 18
points and tied a career-high with six 3-pointers made in seven
attempts.
Among the Nation's Best
The Golden Eagles are at or near the top of several statistical
categories in the NCAA. As of November 29, ORU leads the nation in
scoring with 93.0 points per game and steals with 16.1 per contest.
The Golden Eagles also place seventh in assists per game (19.3) and
22nd in three-point field-goal defense (23.5). Kevi Luper tops the
NCAA in scoring with 28.4 points per game and ranks second in
steals with 5.1 per contest. Luper also ranks 15th in field-goal
percentage (57.6), while Jaci
Bigham places 30th in assists per game (6.4).
Early and Often
The Golden Eagles' new up-tempo style offense has been evident
through the first seven games this season, as ORU is leading the
nation by averaging 93.0 points per contest. The Golden Eagles have
posted three 100-point games, including Saturday's 109-62 victory
over Southern Utah, marking the first time in school history ORU
has passed the century mark against a league opponent. ORU also
surpassed the 100-point mark in back-to-back wins at Houston
Baptist (101-59) and Sam Houston State (101-85). The Golden Eagles
have also produced against high-caliber opponents, posting 80
points at No. 20 Kansas and at No. 17 Texas. Kevi
Luper, a freshman from Adair, Okla., has led the ORU scoring
attack by averaging 28.4 points, which also leads the nation. Luper
set a Summit League record with 44 points against La Salle on Nov.
20. Janae Voelker tallied a
career-high 29 points at Kansas and averagest 15.1 points per game,
while Jordan Pyle put up a
career-high 22 points against UT-Pan American and averages 11.9
points per game. Jaci
Bigham, a freshman from McAlester, Okla., is fourth on the
squad with 10.4 points per game and leads the team with 6.4 assists
per contest. If the Golden Eagles continue their high-scoring ways
this season, they could be on track to breaking the school record
for points per game, which was 81.2, set during the 1982-83 season.
The 1982-83 squad is the only team in ORU history to average more
than 80 points per contest. The most points an ORU team led by Jerry
Finkbeiner has averaged is 68.0 during the 2005-06 season.
Voelker Continues Scoring Streak
Senior Janae Voelker scored 18
points in Saturday's victory over Southern Utah to extend her
double-figure scoring streak to 47 consecutive games.. Voelker
posted 10 points in the season opener against UT-Pan American, and
tallied a career-high 29 points at No. 20 Kansas. Voelker scored 10
and 11 points against La Salle and Houston Baptist, respectively,
while posting eight second-half points for a total of 10 against
Sam Houston State. Against No. 17 Texas, Voelker tallied 18 points
and had reached the double-figure mark in the first 10 minutes of
the contest. Voelker began the streak by scoring 22 points against
Oakland on February 11, 2008. The Newton, Kan., native scored at
least 10 points in the final 10 games of the 2007-08 season and
achieved the feat in all 30 of last season's contests.
