Total Team Effort Leads ORU Past IUPUI, 71-60

TULSA—Robert Jarvis (Humble, Texas) led four players in double-figures with 23 points, and Oral Roberts University dominated the glass in earning a key 71-60 Summit League win over IUPUI, Saturday at Mabee Center.

The win evened ORU's overall record at 13-13 and improved its League mark to 11-3. The win, coupled with North Dakota State's home loss to Southern Utah, puts the second-place Golden Eagles one-and-a-half games behind league-leading NDSU with four games to play.

Jarvis enjoyed one of his best shooting nights of the year, making 7-of-12 shots overall. After shooting just over 25 percent from three-point range in his previous three games (7-27), Jarvis was 4-of-8 from downtown, and made 5-of-6 at the free throw line for his 10th 20-point performance this season.

As a team, ORU owned a 36-22 rebounding edge over the Jaguars (14-12, 7-8 Summit). The Golden Eagles grabbed 12 offensive rebounds, including eight in the first half to help offset 40.7 percent shooting.

The first half featured three ties and seven lead changes before ORU asserted itself. Down 21-18 with 5:37 left before halftime. The Golden Eagles closed the half on a 14-6 run, taking a 32-27 lead into the locker room.

IUPUI regained the lead before the first second-half media timeout, opening the frame with an 8-1 run for a 35-33 lead with 17:17 remaining in the game. The lead changed hands twice more before ORU took control for good.

Andre Hardy (San Diego, Calif.) started a 7-1 run with a layup for the Golden Eagles, and followed on ORU's next possession by making one of two free throws for a 42-41 lead with 12:06 left. A three-pointer by Dominique Morrison (Kansas City, Mo.) at 11:26 made it 45-41, and Jarvis made the second of two free throws with 10:32 remaining for a 46-41 ORU lead.

The Jags twice cut the lead to three points before ORU surged down the stretch. Another trey by Morrison gave the Eagles a 52-46 lead with 8:52 to play, and Marcus Lewis (Long Beach, Calif.) scored four straight points for a 56-48 advantage with 6:55 left.

IUPUI cut the lead down to three points one last time when Robert Glenn made it 61-58 with 3:35 to go. But a layup and three-pointer by Jarvis made it 66-58 with 2:28 left, to all but put the game away. ORU made five free throws in the final 1:34 to secure the victory.

Lewis, Morrison and Kevin Ford (Portland, Ore.) joined Jarvis in double figures. Lewis scored 14 points, including a 6-of-8 effort from the line, and added a game-high nine rebounds and three assists. Morrison scored 11, making 3-of-5 from three-point range, and Ford chipped in 11 points, five boards and two steals. Glenn led the Jaguars with 23 points, while Leroy Nobles and Alex Young each scored 13.
