SIOUX FALLS, S.D. For the second time in
this week and the third time this season, the Oral Roberts women's
basketball team fell to the 14th nationally ranked South Dakota
State Jackrabbits.
The Golden Eagles finished the season 13-17 overall, while the
Jackrabbits improve 29-2 on the year and move on to play the winner
of the No.4 IUPUI/No. 5 IPFW game in the semifinals of The Summit
League Tournament.
Junior forward Janae Voelker (Newton, Kan.) kept her
double-figure scoring streak intact leading ORU wit 12 points. The
streak now stands at 29 straight games. Freshman guard Georgia
Jones scored seven points, while freshman Jordan
Pyle (Mustang, Okla.) pulled down a team-high six rebounds.
The Golden Eagles kept up with the Jackrabbits in the first three
minutes of the game with SDSU leading 6-3 at 18:17 mark. South
Dakota State took its first double-digit lead at 13:41, 15-5, and
led by 20 or more after the nine-minute mark of the first half of
action.
"Today, South Dakota State looked like a top-20 team," said ORU
women's basketball head coach Jerry
Finkbeiner. "This is the best team we have played all
year."
ORU shot 40.4 percent (21-52) from the field, including 31.3
percent (5-16) from three-point range and 50.0 percent (2-4) from
the free throw line.
SDSU shot 48.4 percent (30-62) from the field, including 26.9
percent (7-26) from behind the arc and 71.4 percent (10-14) from
the charity stripe.
Three ORU
seniors played in their finally career game for the Golden Eagles:
guards Mariana Camargo, Demesha
Heard and center Monah Pegorari.
"We're a
young team and we had four freshmen play a lot of minutes today,"
Finkbeiner said. "I'm really looking forward to next year's
team."
