NORMAL, Ill. - The Oral Roberts University volleyball team opened
the 2009 season on Friday evening with a 3-0 shutout of
UT-Arlington at the Redbird Classic in Normal, Ill.
The Golden Eagles (1-0) cruised in the first two sets by scores of
25-16 and 25-18 before edging the Mavericks by a score of 25-23 to
close out the match.
Senior
Juliane Vieira (Ribeirao
Preto, Brazil) led ORU with 42 of the team's 48 assists. Serena
Cate (Yorba Linda, Calif.) posted 18 kills for a .552 hitting
percentage, while freshman
Olivia Ophus (Tulsa,
Okla.) tallied 10 kills and sophomore
Lauren Ophus (Tulsa, Okla.)
chipped in eight kills.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Saturday for contests against
Gardner-Webb (10 a.m.) and Illinois State (7 p.m.). Live stats can
