TULSA - The Oral Roberts University volleyball team suffered their
first loss of the season in a 3-0 defeat to Tulsa on Thursday night
in the opening match of the ORU Classic at the Cooper Aerobics
Center. The Golden Eagles dropped to 3-1 overall, while the Golden
Hurricane improved to 4-0 on the season.
Tulsa opened the match by taking the first set by a score of 25-16.
The Golden Hurricane jumped out to a 23-17 advantage in the second
set, and ORU battled back to cut the lead to 23-21, but ultimately
fell 25-21. The Golden Eagles rallied again the in the third set,
rattling off three consecutive points to bring the margin to 24-22,
but couldn't get any closer, falling 25-22.
Senior
Juliane Vieira (Ribeirao
Preto, Brazil) led the Golden Eagles with 30 assists, while also
topping the squad with nine digs defensively. Vieira is currently
10th in Golden Eagle history with 1,396 career assists.
Serena Cate (Yorba Linda,
Calif.) posted a team-leading 11 kills, while freshman Tatum
Fredeen (Bentonville, Ark.) tallied nine kills for a .300
hitting percentage.
Junior
Jocelyn Swier (Ripon,
Calif.) led ORU with four assisted blocks, while Joana
Gruber (Santa Rosa, Brazil) posted two service aces for a
team-leading eight on the season.
Jennifer Eichler led Tulsa with 15 kills, while Rachel Vukson
posted 15 assists and Jordan Clampitt chipped in 13 helpers.
The Golden Eagles return to action on Friday with a 7:00 p.m.
meeting with Arkansas-Little Rock.
