EDINBURGH, Texas - The Oral Roberts volleyball team kicked off the
2010 season with a 3-2 victory over Lamar on Friday morning at the
UTPA Fall Invitational in Edinburgh, Texas. The Golden Eagles
return to play at 4:00 p.m. for Friday's second contest against
Idaho State.
After dropping the first game by a score of 25-16, the Golden
Eagles stormed back to take the next two games 25-15 and 25-17. The
Cardinals won the fourth frame by a score of 25-19 to force a
decisive game five, where ORU edged Lamar 15-13.
Sophomore Elizabeth
McVicker (Owasso, Okla.) led ORU with a career-high 17 kills
against zero errors for a .607 hitting percentage. Fellow
sophomores Olivia
Ophus (Tulsa, Okla.) and Tatum
Fredeen (Bentonville, Ark.) also scored in double figures with
10 kills apiece.
Jocelyn
Swier, a senior from Ripon, Calif., chipped in with nine kills,
while also leading the Golden Eagles with six total blocks.
Cassidy
Holmes (Tulsa, Okla.) led the ORU defense, posting 30 digs,
while Ophus also added seven digs.
Freshman Laura
Taylor (Broken Arrow, Okla.) opened collegiate play with 29
assists, as well as three kills in four attempts and five digs.
Fellow newcomer Anna
Rossi (Sao Paulo, Brazil) tallied 24 assists and six digs.
As a team, the Golden Eagles hit .309 with 63 kills against 17
errors in 149 attempts.
