the Cooper Aerobics Center. First serve is scheduled for 7 pm.
Oral Roberts (8-4, 1-1 Summit League) is coming off of a dominating
performance on Saturday night, when they swept UMKC, 3-0. Sophomore
libero Bruna Silva led the charge with a season-high 27 digs
in the victory, while Elizabeth McVicker and Olivia Ophus added nine kills each. The win moved ORU
to 40-4 all-time against the Kangaroos.
The Golden Eagles are 1-1 on their current homestand, with the loss
coming on Sept. 15, a 3-2 defeat to South Dakota. Junior Sheina Fernandes had a team-high 13 kills in the
defeat.
The South Dakota setback was the only one ORU has endured in the
month of September. Sheera Sirola's club is 7-1 this month, including
impressive victories over Winthrop, McNeese State and
UL-Monroe.
Oral Roberts has not won seven matches in a single month since
October of 2008, when they posted a 7-2 record. With four matches
still remaining in September, ORU has ample opportunity for their
first eight-win month since October of 2006.
Southern Utah (3-9, 1-1 Summit League) had a weekend very similar
to ORU's; they swept UMKC on Sept. 15 and dropped a 3-2 decision to
South Dakota two days later. Junior middle blocker Cashaana Renfro
broke an SUU school record with a .636 hitting percentage in the
South Dakota loss.
ORU is 2-2 in four prior meetings with the Thunderbirds. The two
squads have split a two-match draw each of the last two seasons,
with both teams winning twice at home.
Last season's face-off in Tulsa went to ORU, 3-1. Four Golden
Eagles tallied double-digit kills in the match, including Tatum Fredeen with 15 and Joana Gruber with ten. Silva had 18 digs in the
match.
Following Monday's match, the Eagles hit the road once again on
their first Summit League trip of the season. ORU faces IUPUI
Friday at 7 pm; a day later, the travel to Western Illinois for a 7
pm match.
