LAKE CHARLES, La. -
Oral Roberts University's high-octane offense was on display
again on Saturday afternoon as the Golden Eagles routed McNeese
State, 3-0, at Memorial Gym. ORU hit .336 for the match, their
second-straight plus-.300 effort.
Oral Roberts (15-4, 7-2 Southland Conference) dispatched of the
Cowgirls by scores of 26-24, 25-18 and 25-20.
Sara
Pope was once again ORU's top threat, posting a team-high 15
kills. Jessica
Pancratz added 10 kills and Luara
Rosa had eight for the Golden Eagles.
Defensively, Bruna
Silva's 16 digs set the standard, while Jovana
Poljasevic was strong at the net with two solo blocks and seven
total.
Malina Sanchez led the Cowgirls (12-12, 5-6 Southland Conference)
with nine kills. McNeese has lost their last four matches.
McNeese scored seven straight points early in the 1st set,
including four errors by the Golden Eagles, to take a 9-3 lead. But
the road side fought back to tie the set at 13-all on a Pancratz
kill, and it was the senior who killed off McNeese's set point when
they had ORU down, 24-23. The Golden Eagles took the next two
points for a 26-24 opening set victory.
Pope started a five-point rally early in the 2nd set, staking ORU
to an 8-3 lead, and the Golden Eagles never looked back. McNeese
could never push past ORU, and home team attack errors on the final
two points gave the Golden Eagles a 25-18 win.
ORU gradually wore McNeese down in the 3rd set, never trailing but
also never leading by more than six points. A Pope kill gave the
Golden Eagles a commanding 20-14 lead, and a combined blocked by
Rosa and Pancratz at match point ended the match with ORU on top,
25-20.
ORU is now 4-0 all-time against McNeese State and has won 20 of our
last 21 matches in the state of Louisiana.
The Golden Eagles return home on Thursday, October 24 to host Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi. Match time at the Kenneth H. Cooper
Aerobics Center is scheduled for 7 pm CT.
