BEAUMONT, Texas - The Oral Roberts University
women's soccer team scored three goals in six minutes en route to
the Golden Eagles' second victory in as many days as they defeated
Lamar on Sunday, 3-0.
ORU moved its record to 2-0 in Southland Conference play and 7-2
overall, giving the Golden Eagles their best nine-game start in
program history. With the loss, the Cardinals dropped to 3-5
overall and 0-1 in the SLC.
Battling back and forth through the first 35 minutes, the Golden
Eagles turned up the heat in the 35th minute, netting a
pair of goals just 62 seconds apart. Jordan
Parsons started the scoring as she got a head on a cross from
Kayla
Keller, converting it for the goal. A short time later, Keller
added the second ORU goal of the match and her fourth of the
year.
In the 41st minute, Parsons struck again as she took
possession of the ball near midfield, scoring her third goal of the
season on a breakaway, extending the ORU lead to 3-0.
Midway through the second half, Jennifer
Abernathy had the best opportunity to increase the ORU lead as
she was called upon to take a penalty kick. However, Lamar keeper
Bailey Fontenot knocked it down for the save.
Maddie
Rhodes continues to impress in the net for ORU as she earned
her first solo shutout of the season and the second of her career.
She recorded three saves to move to 3-1 on the season. Fontenot
took the loss for the Cardinals as she earned six saves in 82
minutes, while Zoey Stephenson had a save in the final eight
minutes.
Parsons finished the afternoon with four of ORU's 10 shots on
goal. Jennifer

Stordahl each had two on target, while Keller and Ashley
Martin had a solid look.
The Golden Eagles outshot the Cardinals, 24-13.
ORU has a week off until they return to action at the Case
Soccer Complex next Sunday against first-year program Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi. Start time against the Islanders is set for
1 p.m.
