Baylor Lady Bears were impressive Friday night as they overpowered
Oral Roberts University 101-60 on the opening night of women's
college basketball.
Vicky
McIntyre officially made her Golden Eagle debut as she posted a
double-double with 10 points and 17 rebounds against the 8th-ranked
Lady Bears. She also added three blocks in the loss.
ORU had trouble finding their offense early as Baylor raced out
to a 12-0 lead as the Golden Eagles went nearly four minutes before
attempting just their third field goal of the game. McIntyre
knocked down a pair of free-throws putting ORU on the board at the
15:42 mark in the first half as she finished 4-of-5 from the
line.
The Golden Eagles did shoot well from the free throw line
shooting 71 percent on 15-of-21 while also knocking down five
three-pointers on just 10 attempts.
However, the Golden Eagles committed 31 turnovers in the loss
and were unable to recover from the slow start. The Lady Bears took
advantage of the ORU miscues scoring 37 points off turnovers in the
game.
The Turning Point
Baylor raced out to a 12-0 lead and held ORU to just two field
goals in the four minutes of the game. The Lady Bears led by as
many as 46 before posting the 41 points victory that saw three
Baylor players score at least 18 points.
The Leaders
Oral Roberts: Jordan
Doyle led ORU in scoring with 14 points while Vicky
McIntyre posted a double-double with 10 points and 17
rebounds.
Baylor: Nina Davis led all players with 22 points
and added 10 rebounds to finish with a double-double.
Inside the Box Score
- After a slow start in the first half ORU shot 41
percent from the field in the second half.
- Baylor was able to get to the free throw line twice as many
times as the Golden Eagles. The Lady Bears went 27-of-42 from the
line while ORU was 15-of-21.
- As noted earlier ORU committed 31 turnovers, however Baylor was
efficient turning the ball over just eight times and finishing with
22 assists.
News & Notes
- Baylor has won the last seven meetings against ORU and holds a
7-2 lead in the all-time series.
- ORU will play five of their first seven games on the road adding
to the tough non-conference schedule.
- ORU will make their regular season debut at the Mabee Center
