HOUSTON, Texas - The Oral Roberts men's basketball team hit
seven 3-pointers and shot 50 percent from beyond the arc en route
to an 80-66 victory on the road at Houston Baptist on Thursday
night at Sharp Gym.
Leading the long ball barrage for ORU (13-12, 7-5) was a 3-for-4
effort from Adrion
Webber, who finished with 11 points. Bobby
Word (8 points) and Jabbar
Singleton (6 points) each added a pair of 3-pointers.
Shawn
Glover led all scorers with 23 points, hitting 11 of his 15
shots, pacing ORU to a 55 percent (33-60) effort from the field in
the win. It was the best ORU has shot for a game since a four-point
loss at Wisconsin on November 23.
Glover also became the 31st person in school history
to reach 1,000 points for their ORU career.
Korey
Billbury added 12 points and nine rebounds, while Jorden
Kaufman scored 10 points, two off his career high.
Houston Baptist was led by Rob Lewis, who scored 19 points. The
Huskies played 12 players and 11 of them scored at least a point.
Reveal Chukwujekwu led HBU with nine rebounds.
After scoring the game's opening points, ORU succumbed to a 7-0
HBU run, finding themselves in a hole early. The two teams traded
baskets before ORU went on an 11-0 run of their own, including
back-to-back baskets from Kaufman to make it 15-9. After that run,
ORU would not trail again.
After being down 9-4, ORU out-scored the Huskies 27-7 over the
next eight minutes and more than doubled up the Huskies late in the
first half as a 3-pointer by Webber made it 31-15 with just over
six minutes to go in the half.
HBU's Lewis took over from that point and hit a trio of
3-pointers, with only a Glover jumper in the middle, getting the
Huskies back to within nine, 33-24. He continued to lead the HBU
charge in the first half, scoring 12-straight points for the
Huskies, getting his team to within eight at 35-27.
ORU was able to hold off the charge thanks to layups by Billbury
and Glover, and took a 39-29 lead into the locker room.
After a 7-2 ORU run to start the second half, HBU made another
run and cut it to a 46-35 ORU advantage before the Golden Eagles
dialed in from long range again. Word and Webber both hit from
beyond the arc, including a 4-point play from Webber to push the
lead out to 20, 60-40 with 12:10 to go in the game.
From there, the Golden Eagles were able to cruise to victory,
running the winning streak to three games, matching the longest
streak of the season.
The Golden Eagles will continue to head south to face Texas
A&M-Corpus Christi on Saturday at 3:30 p.m.
