DENVER - A late rally for the Oral Roberts
University women's basketball team fell short Sunday evening as
Denver held on for a 66-57 win at Magness Arena in Summit League
action.
The Golden Eagles used a 20-6 run over the final six minutes of
the first half to tie the game at 34-34 at intermission.
However, the ORU offense was unable to keep pace with the
Pioneers who knocked down 10 three-pointers to hold on for the
win.
Dorottya Balla led the Golden Eagles with a game-high 13 points
as she made one of just two three-pointers for ORU. She also went
8-of-9 from the free throw line as ORU closed the game 27-of-35 to
finish at a season-high 77 percent.
The Turning Point
Dorottya Balla was fouled during a three-point
attempt and hit all three free throws to pull ORU within two
points, 59-57, with 1:02 left in the game. However, Denver answered
with a three-pointer from Paige Bradley and the Golden Eagles were
forced to foul as the Pioneers hit four free throws in the final
minute to hold on for the win.
The Leaders
Oral Roberts: Dorottya Balla posted
a game-high 13 points.
Denver: Morgan Van Riper-Rose and Jordan Johnston
hit a trio of three-pointers to finish with 13 points each.
Inside the Box Score
- The Golden Eagles shot 77 percent (27-of-35) from
the free throw line, their second highest total of the season
- The 35 free throws attempted were the most since ORU went
33-of-38 against IPFW Jan. 23, 2012.
- ORU out-rebounded Denver 42-41 as it was the fourth time this
season the Golden Eagles led the game in rebounding and loss.

- ORU opens Summit League action with three of their first four
games on the road.
- In the last four games Faith Ihim is averaging 14.5 points per
game as she has also made her first three collegiate starts.

ORU will return home to host South Dakota in the
first Summit League game at the Mabee Center since 2012. Tip-off is
