TULSA, Okla. - A last-second three to end
regulation bolstered Oral Roberts to a dominant overtime period as
the Golden Eagles got past IUPUI 69-61 in overtime Wednesday night
at the Mabee Center.
After Bobby Word's game-tying three with a second to go, ORU
(7-8, 1-1) out-scored IUPUI (5-11, 1-1) 13-5 in the overtime
period, including six straight points from Denell Henderson to
start the frame.
The Golden Eagles got 23 points and seven rebounds from Korey
Billbury, whose traditional 3-point play with 0:26 left in
regulation got ORU within striking distance, cutting a 5-point
deficit to two. Including his six points in overtime, Henderson
scored a combined 13 points and grabbed 11 rebounds after halftime,
finishing with 15 points and 11 rebounds, his second double-double
of the season.
IUPUI got 11 points from Khufu Najee and 10 points from Justus
Stanback. DavRon Williams had a team-high seven rebounds as the
Jaguars used a team effort on the boards to out-rebound ORU
40-33.

Turning Point
Denell Henderson scored the first six points of the
overtime period, pushing ORU out to a 62-56 lead with 2:32 to play.
Free throws down the stretch, including a 4-4 mark from Bobby Word
inside the final minute gave ORU its ninth home win in a row.
Individual Leaders
Oral Roberts: Korey Billbury led the
way with 23 points, while Denell Henderson posted a double-double
with 15 points and 11 rebounds. Henderson also had a career high
three assists, combining with Aaron Young's four helpers to account
for seven of the nine ORU assists on the night.
IUPUI: Khufu Najee had 11 points, while Justus Stanback
added 10 for the Jaguars. DavRon Williams had a team-high seven
rebounds.
Inside the Box Score
- ORU shot just 39.3 percent (22-56) from the field
and 29.4 percent (5-17) from 3-point range. It was the lowest
percentage in both categories in a win this year for the Golden
Eagles.
- IUPUI hit 46.9 percent (23-49) from the field but was just 50
percent (9-18) from the free throw line.
- ORU was 74 percent (20-27) from the free throw line, but hit all
four attempts in the final 0:34 of overtime.
News & Notes
- Wednesday marked the third time this year that ORU
has been tied at the half, but the first win for the Golden
Eagles.
- Each of the last two meetings and seven of the all-time meetings
between ORU and IUPUI have gone to overtime.
- ORU is now riding a nine-game home winning streak, including all
five home games this season.
- With his 23 points, Billbury posted his fifth 20-point game of
the year, but led the team in scoring for just the third time this
season.
