The Short Story: The Oral Roberts women's tennis team held off Western Illinois Sunday for an exciting 4-3 victory in Summit League action.
Brenda Mercado helped pace ORU with her second straight singles win at the No. 4 position. The win was also a team-best 10th victory on the year. She also joined Petya Simeonova and Valentina Gisbert to improve to 2-1 in Summit League singles this season.
The Golden Eagles jumped out to an early lead taking No. 1 and No.3 doubles to help secure what would prove to be the deciding point. Jovana Antonijevic and Simeonova earned a 6-2 win while Mercado and Gisbert picked up a 6-0 victory.
Up Next: The Golden Eagles will close out their road trip Monday with a morning match against Chicago State. Action is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.
