TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team battled Denver close to the finish in a Summit League loss (14-25, 24-26, 23-25) Sunday afternoon at the Aerobics Center.

After a lopsided finish to the opening set, the Golden Eagles responded and turned a five-point deficit into a 16-16 tie using a 7-2 run. ORU put itself in a perfect position to even the match on set point leading the Pioneers, 24-23, but the visitors came back scoring the final three points for a 2-0 lead.

Denver built a seven-point edge in the middle of the third stanza before the Golden Eagles fought back to put pressure on the Pioneers. A solo block from CeCe Madison capped a 10-3 stretch by ORU that evened the set, 23-23, only to have Denver capitalize on a service error and block to close out the home loss.

• Madison led ORU with 13 kills and added a solo block and block assist, putting away nine kills in the final frame.
• Taylan Nero paced the Golden Eagles behind a .583 hitting percentage totaling eight kills on 12 swings.
• Sylvia Lawson helped the offense sending out 32 set assists and posted six digs.
• Laura Shoopman gave the Golden Eagles six kills and matched Sarah Thiessen with a match-best 11 digs.
