Lippe Scores 1,000th Point at Western Illinois

MACOMB, Ill. – Keni Jo Lippe became the 21st player to reach 1,000 career points in Oral Roberts women's basketball history Saturday evening in 75-61 loss at Western Illinois.

The Golden Eagles fell into a five-point hole to start the game, but rallied back to take a lead and eventually an 11-11 tie for the first media break. Nena Taylor and Rylie Torrey got things going for ORU, both making three-point shots in the first six minutes of play. ORU trailed after the first 10 minutes, 20-15. The Golden Eagles shot 28 percent from the field as the Leathernecks shot 41 percent.

ORU trailed by as much as 19 in the second quarter. The Leathernecks went on an 18-4 run in the second and the Golden Eagles went 1-for-9 from the field. ORU shot 25 percent from the field in the first half which resulted in a halftime deficit of 39-22.

The Leathernecks didn't score their first bucket until four minutes into the quarter as ORU cut the deficit to 15. Western Illinois went on a 9-2 run in the third and went up by as much as 25 and closed out the quarter with a 58-33 advantage.

 The Golden Eagles cut the deficit to 10 points with 3:28 to go in the fourth. ORU then it to nine with 2:50 to play and then made it an eight point game with one minute to play. The comeback wasn't enough as the Leathernecks hit free-throws down the stretch to win, 75-61. Montserrat Brotons and Lippe each recorded a double-double in the game.

THE LEADERS

Oral Roberts: Lippe and Torrey each scored 16 points and Brotons and Lippe each had 10 boards.

Western Illinois: Olivia Kaufmann had 21 points and Evan Zars had 10 rebounds.                                                                                                                                             

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- ORU shot 32.3 percent overall in tonight's game.

- ORU out-rebounded WIU, 43-41.

- The Golden Eagles had a 23.8 percent three-point average.

- ORU turned the ball over 19 times, but forced the Leathernecks to turn the ball over 14 times.

- Keni Jo Lippe eclipsed the 1,000 point milestone for her career with 16 points on the night. She also had a double-double with 10 rebounds.  

- Montserrat Brotons recorded a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds.

- Rylie Torrey captured 16 points, two rebounds and one assist.

- ORU had seven bench points in tonight's game and 30 points in the paint.

- Golden Eagles capitalized with nine points off of turnovers.
