ORU Falls at Denver Sunday, 91-79

DENVER – Rylie Torrey led the Golden Eagles with 15 points as Oral Roberts women's basketball team fell at Denver, 91-79, Sunday afternoon in Denver, Colorado.

ORU started off cold from the field shooting 1-for-8 overall to start things off in Denver. ORU fell behind after the first 10 minutes, 22-10. As a whole, the team shot 19 percent in the first as the Pioneers shot 40 percent. Post-play was the key to the offense as Jentry Holt and Regan Schumacher each had four points.

The Golden Eagles cut the deficit in the first six minutes of the second hitting 4-of-5 in a row to make it a seven point game. ORU's offense got going as the team cut the deficit to three with one minute to go in the half. A pair of free-throws by Rylie Torrey made it a one point game with 53 seconds left. Denver was fouled on a three-point shot with one second to go and took a 40-36 lead in to halftime. The Golden Eagles out-scored Denver, 26-18, in the second to trail by four. Torrey had 10 second quarter points.

An 8-0 run for ORU brought the team back within two after going down by 10 in the third. Katie Kirkhart scored three consecutive buckets for ORU. The Golden Eagles extended the run to 12-2. The Golden Eagles tied the game 50-50 at the media timeout. ORU took its first lead of the game at the 4:25 mark with two free-throws by Keni Jo Lippe. ORU trailed Denver, 64-61, at the end of the third.

ORU fell behind in the fourth and trailed 87-76 with two minutes to play. The Pioneers continued to shoot 45-plus percent in the game and recorded 27 points in the fourth. DU held an 11 point lead with just under a minute to go, but then extended it to win 91-79.

THE LEADERS

Oral Roberts: Torrey led ORU with 15 points and three Golden Eagles had seven rebounds.

Denver: Lauren Loven scored 27 points and Madison Nelson had a double-double with 25 points and 12 rebounds.                                                                                                                                              

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- ORU shot 35.6 percent overall in tonight's game.

- ORU out-rebounded DU, 52-36.

- The Golden Eagles had a 28.6 percent three-point average.

- ORU turned the ball over 12 times, but forced the Pioneers to turn the ball over nine times.

- Katie Kirkhart recorded 10 points with five rebounds.

- Rylie Torrey scored 15 points with seven rebounds and four assists.

- Montserrat Brotons tallied 10 points and six boards. Brotons went 5-for-8 from the field.

- Gem Summers added 12 points with four rebounds.

- ORU had 30 bench points in tonight's game and 32 points in the paint.

- Golden Eagles capitalized with 11 points off of turnovers.
