Brotons Has Career Night in Win at UND

GRAND FORKS, N.D. – Four Golden Eagles scored in double-digits as the Oral Roberts women's basketball team defeated North Dakota, 86-72, Friday evening in Grand Forks, North Dakota.

The Fighting Hawks jumped out to an eight point lead in the first. The Golden Eagles then went on an 8-0 run that included a triple by Keni Jo Lippe. The Fighting Hawks forced ORU to go scoreless for 2:26 until Katie Kirkhart get the jumper at the buzzer to end the first. The Golden Eagles trailed North Dakota 20-15 after the first 10 minutes. The Fighting Hawks shot 62 percent in the first as ORU shot 41 percent. 

The first bucket of the second for ORU came on a fast break layup by Montserrat Brotons and the assist by Lippe that ended a two-minute scoreless streak. The Golden Eagles pulled within one with 6:40 to play when Lippe hit her second three-point shot of the night. Sarah Garvie hit her second three-point shot of the game with 1:45 to go to give ORU a 31-29 lead. North Dakota led 33-31 at the break as the Fighting Hawks shot 43 percent in the first half. Lippe had eight first half points as the Golden Eagles shot 38 percent from the field.

Jentry Holt gave ORU a one point lead when she connected on the and-one play to start things off in the third. The Golden Eagles then went up by as much as 11 in the third and led, 58-47, at the end of the quarter. ORU out-scored North Dakota, 27-14, in the third and shot … percent in the quarter.

Brotons started the fourth with a pair of free-throws to put ORU up by 13. After two more from the charity stripe, Brotons went 6-for-6 from the line. The Golden Eagles run extended to 14-0 to go up by 18 with 7:30 to play. North Dakota cut the deficit down to 10 with 4:43 to play. The Fighting Hawks cut it to eight with 2:55 to go. Rachel Skalnik scored nine points in the fourth going a perfect 4-for-4 in the quarter. ORU connected with free-throws down the stretch to win 86-72

THE LEADERS

Oral Roberts: Lippe recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds.

North Dakota: Jaclyn Jarnot scored 14 points and Olivia Lane pulled 13 rebounds.                                                                                                                                            

INSIDE THE BOX SCORE

- ORU shot 41.5 percent overall in tonight's game.

- ORU out-rebounded UND, 42-40.

- The Golden Eagles had a 50 percent three-point average.

- ORU turned the ball over 10 times, but forced the Fighting Hawks to turn the ball over 14 times.

- Keni Jo Lippe recorded her fourth double-double of the season with 17 points and 12 rebounds. Lippe also had four assists.

- Montserrat Brotons scored a career high 20 points with three rebounds. She also had a career high five assists.

- Rachel Skalnik had 12 points with four rebounds.

- Jentry Holt tied her ORU career high with 11 points. She pulled nine rebounds along with three assists and two blocks.

- ORU had 24 bench points in tonight's game and 28 points in the paint.

- Golden Eagles capitalized with 10 points off of turnovers.
