TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts baseball team built a 3-0 lead in the first inning, but could not hold off Incarnate Word falling 6-5 Sunday afternoon at J.L. Johnson Stadium.
The Cardinals scored three times in the seventh moving ahead, 5-4, before the Golden Eagles answered back in the eighth on a pinch-hit, RBI single from Jake McMurray with two outs. UIW posted the eventual winning run in the top of the ninth hitting three-straight singles to close the win.
Ryan Cash opened the offense for ORU sending a lead-off single to left and Blake Hall dropped down a perfect one-out bunt putting two on base. With two outs, Adam Oviedo, Caleb Denny and Tanner Lindsly combined to hit three-straight, RBI singles giving the Golden Eagles a 3-0 lead in the bottom of the first.
The visitors tallied two runs in the third started with back-to-back singles. Both runners moved into scoring position on a wild pitch and came home on a RBI groundout and RBI single.
Adam Oviedo crushed a home run to left for the third-consecutive contest on the second pitch of the sixth inning pushing the ORU lead to 4-2. An error on a UIW sacrifice bunt allowed the visitors to load the bases with nobody out in the seventh. A second error in the inning allowed the Cardinals to plate the tying run from third and a bases loaded walk brought home the third run of the frame and a 5-4 lead.
ORU put two on in the eighth getting a single from Jordan Wiley and a two-out walk to Caleb Denny moving the potential tying run into scoring position. McMurray entered as a pinch hitter and worked a full count before delivering a RBI single to left bringing home the fifth run to pull the Golden Eagles even.
The tie did not last long as UIW was able to scratch across the winning run in the top of the ninth behind three-straight singles with one out to take the game, 6-5.
Turning Point
After ORU got the first out in the top of the ninth, they allowed singles to the next three batters as the Cardinals broke the 5-5 tie plating the winning run.

Inside the Box Score
- Oviedo closed the day with his third-straight, multi-hit effort going 3-for-4 at the plate scoring two runs with two RBI. He totaled three home run, five runs scored and six RBI in the series against UIW.
- Hall and Cash each put together two-hit afternoons recording two singles apiece and a run scored for the Golden Eagles, both runs coming in the first inning.
- Denny reached base twice for the ORU offense hitting a RBI single in the first and drew a walk in the eighth, one of two walks drawn by the home side.
- Lindsly and McMurray added the other RBI singles as there was only one extra-base hit for either team in the contest.
- James Notary left the game in the seventh after tossing 6.0 innings throwing a season-high 103 pitches in the start. He was charged with five runs, three earned, and struck out four with four walks.
