#ORUWSoc Plays to 2OT Draw With SDSU

The Basics
Score: Oral Roberts 1, South Dakota State 1
Site: Case Soccer Complex | Tulsa, Oklahoma

TULSA, Okla.  – On Sunday afternoon, the Oral Roberts women's soccer team (4-7-2, 1-2-1 Summit) played to a 1-1 draw in double overtime with the Summit League leading South Dakota State Jackrabbits (12-1-1, 3-0-1 Summit). The draw snaps a seven-game winning streak for SDSU, dating back to September 10.

Less than ten minutes into the game, Sophie Nash forced a turnover and quickly found Pamela Caballeros, who buried her seventh goal of the season. Nash picked up her second collegiate assist while Caballeros points total increased to 16 on the season. The Golden Eagles would carry their lead into halftime.

Just over eight minutes into the second half, South Dakota State would find an equalizer off of an ill-advised pass from the Golden Eagles. Despite being a physical second half in which three yellow cards were issued, neither team would find another advantage to bury a go-ahead goal. Caballeros nearly found her second goal of the day in the 64th minute when her shot hit the crossbar twice before being cleared by a Jackrabbit defender.

In the first overtime, South Dakota State was dominant. The Jackrabbits earned five corner kicks and outshot the Golden Eagles 3-0 in the additional ten minutes. A diving save by Louisa Ramsauer denied South Dakota State of their best scoring opportunity and kept the Golden Eagles alive.

The adjustments that ORU made in between overtime periods seemed to be just what the doctor ordered as the Golden Eagles controlled the pace in the second overtime. The Golden Eagles outshot SDSU 5-1, landing three shots on goal. Samantha Guzman landed a shot on the bottom left corner of the goal, while Caballeros had two more shots that were stopped by the Jackrabbits keeper. As the final seconds ticked off, ORU had one final chance for a heroic victory but the last-second effort was stopped
