MACOMB, Ill. – The Oral Roberts volleyball team got a career-high 19 kills from freshman Trinity Freeman in a three-set sweep of Western Illinois (25-15, 29-27, 25-23) inside Western Hall Saturday night.

The Golden Eagles erased an early 3-0 deficit getting back-to-back kills from Aixa Vigil and took a 6-5 lead following a 3-0 burst in the first stanza. After the Fighting Leathernecks evened the score, 8-8, it was all ORU as Freeman found the floor starting a 5-1 run. The Phoenix, Arizona, native added three more kills, totaling seven in the set, to help the visitors win, 25-15. ORU scored seven of the final eight points, including the last five, and put away six total blocks in the frame.

The second set was a battle all the way through extra points and featured 11 tie scores and six lead changes. ORU moved ahead, 4-2, behind a 3-0 run as all three points came on WIU errors and kept the two-point cushion, 9-7. The next four points went to the home side and the Leathernecks held a 13-11 advantage. The see-saw continued as the Golden Eagles fought back scoring four-straight points on kills by Vigil and Freeman along with a Sakira LaCour and Freeman block before pushing to a three-point lead, 19-16. After WIU tied the set, 20-20, ORU continued to press and finally broke through on its fourth set point as Freeman delivered again for a 29-27 victory.

Five-consecutive points by the Golden Eagles on the serve of Jeslyn Spencer helped turn back a 3-0 start by WIU and the visitors built a 9-6 advantage. The Leathernecks pulled within one, 11-10, before a LaCour kill and consecutive blocks by LaCour and Vigil stretched the lead to four. A 4-0 run by WIU pushed the home side to a 19-18 lead, but consecutive points by Dunford and LaCour gave ORU the advantage again and a Jaxie Wakley swing sealed the sweep, 25-23.
