TULSA, Okla. – Katie Scott led the Oral Roberts women's basketball team to a 97-63 victory with 23 points in the team's exhibition game against Rogers State Wednesday night at the Mabee Center.
The Golden Eagles opened the game with 24 points after the first 10 minutes, followed by 20 more points in the second. Holding a 44-27 lead at the half, the Golden Eagles captured 26 of those points in the paint. Making her debut in an ORU uniform,
Katie Scott led the Golden Eagles with 11 first-half points. The defense held Rogers State to nine second quarter points holding the Hillcats to 4-for-15 from the field.
ORU extended its 13-3 run from the end of the first half through the third quarter and continued to a 35-8 scoring run. The offense continued in the fourth with a 9-0 run to start the quarter. The Golden Eagles scored 53 second half points, outscoring the Hillcats, 53-36. Last season, ORU averaged 64.4 points per game. Most of the team's points came in the paint with 58.
Following Scott's lead, ORU had three other double-digit scorers. Freshmen sisters, Tirzah and
Trinity Moore, each scored in double-digits with 15 for Tirzah and 10 for Trinity.
Keni Jo Lippe recorded 12 points in the game. The defense forced 20 RSU turnovers and created 17 points off those turnovers.
ORU ended the night out-rebounding Rogers State, 56-35, with 25 being offensive. Overall, the Golden Eagles shot 41.6 percent from the field and 77.5 percent from the free-throw line to earn the 97-63 win.
