• ORU picked up an 18-point win at Houston Baptist Dec. 4 for its first road win of the campaign thanks to
Elijah Lufile's 13-point, 11-rebound double-double.
Max Abmas (18),
Trey Phipps (14) and
DeShang Weaver (13) also scored in double figures during the victory, while the team made 6-of-11 from 3-point range in the second half.
• Abmas (21.5 ppg), Weaver (10.8) and
Issac McBride (10.6 ppg) all score in double figures to lead the Golden Eagles offense, which ranks 17th in the NCAA at 84.4 points per game.
• Behind his season-best 38 points in the Mayor's Cup win over Tulsa, Abmas now ranks eighth in the nation in points per game and leads the country making 4.4 3-pointers a game. The junior recently moved past Eric Perry (1996-2000) for fifth in program history in career triples and has 222 in his tenure, while tying
Kevin Obanor (2018-21) with 1,306 career points.
• ORU is hitting 13.4 triples per game to lead the nation thanks to a school-record 21 against Southwestern Christian and 19 versus Tulsa. The team has made double-digit 3-pointers in eight of nine outings this season.
• The Golden Eagles currently rank 26th in the NCAA pulling down 41.8 rebounds a contest.
Scouting the Opponent
• ORU has battled the Bears to an even, 9-9 record in the all-time series, including an 82-72 victory in 2019 when the teams last met. MSU has won six of eight meetings in Springfield.
• The Bears are coming off an 81-55 win at Little Rock Wednesday snapping a two-game skid. MSU sits 11th in the country making 80 percent of its free throw attempts and 43rd in shooting percentage hitting 48 percent from the floor.
• Jaylen Minnett has come off the bench in seven games and is ninth in the NCAA making 3.9 triples per game and converting 51 percent from distance, which ranks 12th. His 14.3 points per game is third on the Bears squad behind Gaige Prim (17.4 ppg) and Isiaih Mosley (16.6 ppg), while Prim also leads the team with 9.4 rebounds per contest.
