#ORUWSoc Heads West for Summit League Opener

TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's soccer team (0-1, 0-0 Summit) with head to Colorado for a Rocky Mountain matchup with the Denver Pioneers (2-1, 2-0 Summit). First touch from Colorado will come at 5:00 p.m. CT on Friday and 12 p.m. CT on Sunday.

  • The Golden Eagles will open Summit League play against the Pioneers on Friday evening. Oral Roberts opening series against North Dakota was postponed, due to the winter storm that swept across most of the United States last weekend.
  • Martha Helsee was named Summit League Offensive Player of the Week following her three-point contest against Central Arkansas.
  • The trip to Denver will be a homecoming for a pair of Golden Eagles as Paige Venrick and Mackenzi Kirschner both call Colorado home. 
  • Last season, ORU finished with a 3-2-3 record in the Summit League and 6-9-4 overall. The Golden Eagles added non-conference victories over Arkansas-Pine Bluff, Grambling State, and Chicago State, outscoring those opponents 20-1.
  • The Golden Eagles were picked third in the Summit League Preseason Coaches' Poll.
  • Drishana Pillay and Brianna McGowan were named Players to Watch throughout the Summit League for the 2020 season.
  • Head Coach Roger Bush is back for his eighth season at the helm for the Golden Eagles. After seven seasons, Bush has a 62-62-13 record at ORU as the women's soccer coach. Coach Bush was named 2016 Summit League Coach of the Year.
     
Opponent Information
  • The Pioneers shutout Western Illinois twice in the opening weekend of Summit League play. Denver won 2-0 on Friday afternoon and 4-0 on Sunday evening against the Leathernecks.
  • Natalie Beckman was named Summit League Offensive Player of the Week on Tuesday after netting three goals and adding an assist against Western Illinois.
  • Denver was picked to win the Summit League in the Preseason Coaches' Poll. The Pioneers garnered seven of the nine available first-place votes and totaled 63 points.
