TULSA, Okla. – An eight run fifth inning was not enough for the Golden Eagles, as the squad fell to Missouri State 14-11 on Tuesday afternoon.
The Golden Eagles fell behind 13-0 before getting on the board in the fourth inning.
Hunter Swift doubled down the right field line to score
Adam Oviedo, who had reached on a double of his own.
Anthony Martinez continued the inning with an RBI single, scoring Swift.
ORU exploded for five runs in the fifth inning – their first time scoring eight runs in an inning since April 20, 2019 against North Dakota State.
Ryan Cash,
Jake McMurray,
Jordan Wiley, and Oviedo all were either walked or hit by a pitch to open the frame.
Caleb Denny,
Isaac Coffey, and
Alec Jones all added consecutive RBI singles to keep the inning no-out rally going.
Joshua Cox added a two-run triple to clear the bases.
Cade Denton,
Kaleb McCullough, and
Bradan Pierce all pitched well out of the Golden Eagle bullpen. The trio combined to allow just one run in six innings of work, tallying eight total strikeouts as well. Pierce and Denton both were making their first appearances in an ORU uniform.
Oviedo added a home run in the ninth inning, but it was too little too late for the Golden Eagles.
Turning Point
Missouri State got out to a blazing offensive start and never surrendered the lead in the game. ORU attempted a ferocious comeback, but came up short.
