DALLAS, Texas – After the Oral Roberts baseball team's weekend series was moved from Tulsa to Dallas, the Golden Eagles wasted no time putting runs on the board. ORU continued their success away from home with a 10-7 win on Friday night, moving to 3-1 on the road this season.
The Golden Eagles opened the scoring in the second inning when
Caleb Denny launched his team-best fourth home run into the Patriot bullpen in left field. DBU got a run back in the third inning to even the game at 1-1.
Blake Hall drove in two runs on his first double of the season – A two-out shot down the left field line to score
Jake McMurray and
Jordan Wiley in the fourth inning. Wiley pushed the ORU lead to four in the sixth inning with his first home run of the season.
DBU came from behind to take a 5-4 lead with a four run sixth inning. In the seventh, ORU responded with six runs of their own to retake a 10-5 lead. The Golden Eagles posted five runs in the frame with two outs, highlighted by a Denny double off the center field wall. Hall and Wiley both added two-out RBI singles in the frame.
Evan Kowalski picked up his third win of the season out of the bullpen, throwing 2.1 innings.
Bradan Pierce picked up the four out save, his second of the season, after getting out of a bases loaded jam in the eighth inning.
Turning Point
Bradan Pierce entered the ballgame with the bases loaded and two outs in the bottom of the eighth inning. Pierce's first pitch was hit to center field, where
Joshua Cox chased it down on the warning track to get ORU out of the jam.
Inside the Box Score
- Jake McMurray extended his hitting streak to six games, just one short of ORU's longest of the season so far – A seven game streak by Caleb Denny.
- Caleb Denny and Blake Hall both drove in three runs on Friday night. Hall had not recorded an RBI coming into the contest.
- Four Golden Eagles tallied multiple hits in Friday's game – McMurray, Denny, Hall, and Jordan Wiley.
- This was the first game in which ORU launched multiple home runs in a game during the 2020 campaign.
- Joshua Cox extended his team-high reached base streak to 12 games with a double in the fifth inning.
- It is ORU's third game in which they have scored 10+ runs in and second of the week.
