ST. LOUIS, Mo. – The Oral Roberts baseball team and Saint Louis were locked in a pitchers duel for seven innings before the Billikens were able to put up four runs in the seventh inning. ORU was unable to follow up Friday night's victory, falling 6-2 to Saint Louis on Saturday afternoon.
Tanner Rogen had excellent command on the mount for the Golden Eagles, facing just one over the minimum through the first three innings. Rogen finished after 6.0 innings of work, allowing just two runs on four hits.
ORU struck first in the fourth inning when
Joshua Cox led the frame off with a single. On the next pitch, Cox swiped his fourth bag of the year and moved himself into scoring position.
Caleb Denny knocked in Cox to give the Golden Eagles a 1-0 lead.
Saint Louis responded in the bottom half of the inning with a run to tie the game. In the sixth inning, the Billikens took a 2-1 lead in the contest on a solo home run to right field.
In the seventh inning, Saint Louis put up four runs to expand their lead to five.
With the Golden Eagles down to their last out,
Blake Hall and
Alec Jones were not willing to give up. Jones knocked a single to plate
Caleb Denny, who led the inning off with a double and cut the deficit to four. Unfortunately, ORU was not able to push anything else across and fell to the Billikens, 6-2.
Turning Point
The first four Billiken hitters reached in the seventh inning, allowing Saint Louis to expand their lead to three. Later in the inning, the Billikens were able to tack on two more runs to push their lead to four.
Inside the Box Score
- Alec Jones and Caleb Denny both recorded multi-hit games for the Golden Eagles. Saturday's contest against Saint Louis was the first multi-hit game of Jones' career.
- Denny recorded a double for the third consecutive game. The ninth inning knock was his sixth double of the season.
- Joshua Cox retook the team lead with his fourth stolen base of the passing. Cox was tied with Ryan Cash, who has swiped three bags.
Up Next
