FARGO, N.D. – The Oral Roberts baseball team put their high-powered offense on full display in a doubleheader against North Dakota State, scoring 29 runs over the two games. The Golden Eagles posted a season-high 21 hits in the nightcap and posted at least 18 runs in a game for the third time this season.
ORU attempted to come back from down 10 runs in game one of the doubleheader, but their comeback came up just short. The Golden Eagles trailed 11-1 heading into the fifth inning, before putting up five runs in the frame.
In the fifth inning, ORU scored on RBI singles from
Ryan Cash,
Jordan Wiley, and
Adam Oviedo, while also getting runs on an error and a sacrifice fly from
Brody Gibson. North Dakota State got two runs in the bottom half of the inning to make the score 13-6.
Joshua Cox resumed the Golden Eagles comeback when he homered to right center in the sixth inning.
In the eighth inning,
Caleb Denny reached on an error by the right fielder, which
Blake Hall followed with an RBI single to score Cash. Wiley plated a run on a sacrifice fly before Oviedo added an RBI single to center. The Golden Eagles comeback fell just short with the team falling 14-11 in game one.
The second game was all ORU from the first pitch. The Golden Eagles scored five runs in the first two innings to take a commanding lead. North Dakota State got a run back in the third to cut their deficit to four.
Over the fourth, fifth, and sixth innings, ORU scored a combined 13 runs with the Golden Eagles scoring at least four runs in each of the frames.
The fourth inning was highlighted by RBI singles from
Jake McMurray,
Blake Hall, and Oviedo. Wiley added an RBI double in the frame as well.
The following inning, Cash, Hall, and
Tanner Lindsly all added RBI singles to extend the lead to 14-1 over the Bison.
Alex Sevensky and Lindsly added RBI knocks in the sixth inning to extend the Golden Eagles lead to 18-1.
Seven different Golden Eagles tallied multi-hit games in the second contest with Cox, Cash, and Hall leading the way with three apiece.
Game One Turning Point
Back-to-back five run innings from North Dakota State proved to be too much for ORU to overcome, despite their best efforts.
Game Two Turning Point
The Golden Eagles jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning before pushing their lead to five in the second inning. From the first pitch, the Golden Eagles offense commanded the game.

- The Golden Eagles pitching staff issued 11 walks in the game, matching their season-high.
- Joshua Cox became the second Golden Eagle to record a four-hit game this season, joining Ryan Cash.
- 17 hits was the second-highest single game total for ORU this season, before the mark was surpassed in Game Two.
- Anthony Martinez recorded his fifth three-hit game of the season.
