TULSA, Okla. – The Oral Roberts women's basketball team and Head Coach
Misti Cussen announced the program has signed five newcomers for the 2021-22 season.
Three of the signees signed with ORU in spring 2021, while two signed in fall 2020. The spring signees include Hannah Cooper, Delaney Nix and Katie Scott. Sisters Tirzah and Trinity Moore signed in the fall.
Hannah Cooper transferred to ORU as a junior from Western Colorado University. The 5-foot-5 guard is a native of El Paso, Texas. During her time at Western Colorado, Cooper was named Rocky Mountain Athletic Conference Freshman of the Year in 2019-20 along with being named to the All-RMAC Second Team.
"Hannah is a true point guard that has scored the ball well in her previous two collegiate seasons," Head Coach
Misti Cussen said. "She really understands offensive change of pace with the ball in her hands, and she can score it in multiple ways. We have heard from numerous college coaches who have coached against Hannah, praising her as a ball player and a floor leader."
Coming to the team from West Texas A&M, Delaney Nix will play her senior season as a Golden Eagle. Nix hails from Tahlequah, Oklahoma, and is the daughter of Tommy and Shannon Nix. At West Texas A&M, she claimed a spot on the All-Lone Star Conference Second Team as a sophomore.
"We're excited to bring Delaney back close to home," Coach Cussen said. "She had an outstanding high school career at Tahlequah before putting together two strong seasons out in west Texas. She is a combo guard with shooting range from the parking lot, so she will really help to spread the floor and create space for her other teammates."
Katie Scott comes to ORU from Grand Canyon University and will join as a sophomore. Scott was named Western Athletic Conference Freshman and Newcomer of the Year in her first season. She led the WAC in scoring and was an All-WAC First Team selection. In high school, she was named 2020 Miss Show Me Basketball and Gatorade Player of the Year.
"Katie's resume speaks for itself," Coach Cussen said. "We are thrilled to add her to our roster with a full four years of eligibility out in front of her. We first had Katie on our campus as a freshman in high school, and good things have definitely come to those who wait! Katie understands the game, knows how to use her diverse skill set, and she competes to WIN."
Tirzah and Trinity Moore signed with the Golden Eagles in fall 2020. The sisters from Jones High School are the first two girls' basketball players from Jones HS to sign with a Division I program in school history. At 6-foot-1, the twins led Jones HS to the Oklahoma Class 3A State Championship and won the title.
"We were all in with Tirzah and Trinity Moore, from the moment we saw them as sophomores in high school," Coach Cussen said. "The girls started their competitive basketball careers a little later than most, but then made tremendous strides during their careers at Jones High School with Coach Holbrook, culminating in a 3A State Championship this year. The girls' combination of athleticism, length, and soft shooting touch make them perfect power forward prospects here at ORU and in the Summit League. Tirzah and Trinity appreciate and embrace the Christ-centered culture of who we are here at ORU – I am so proud to call them ours!"
