TULSA, Okla. –  The Oral Roberts baseball team picked up their first sweep since the 2019 season with a 9-0 win over South Dakota State on Sunday at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Matt Gaskins turned in one of the best outings of his career to pace ORU. The senior faced the minimum number of hitters through his 6.0 innings of work, striking out a career-high nine hitters. Gaskins allowed just two hits and immediately erased them with a pair of double plays.

The Golden Eagles got on the board in the first inning with an RBI double from Ryan Cash to score Jake McMurray. In the second, the Golden Eagles added three runs, highlighted by RBI doubles from Adam Oviedo and Anthony Martinez.

In the fourth inning, ORU scored four runs to take an 8-0 lead over the Jackrabbits. Cash picked up his second RBI double of the day before Blake Hall knocked in a pair of runs with a single through the left side.

ORU picked up their ninth run in the fifth inning when Anthony Martinez scored on a throwing error.

After Gaskins paved the way for six frames, AJ Archambo, Reed Ronan, Kaleb McCullough, and Bradan Pierce all contributed to the shutout efforts. The five Golden Eagle pitchers allowed just three hits, the lowest single-game total for an opponent this season.

A career day for senior Matt Gaskins was exactly what the Golden Eagles needed on Sunday. Gaskins tossed six scoreless innings, matching his longest outing of the season, while striking out a career-high nine.
